When you are making healthy choices, you really don’t expect to get on a scale one day and see that it is 30 lbs over your desired weight!
That is where I found myself at the end of 2021. And it wasn’t because I don’t know how to push my plate away or I am lazy about working out. After working with my doctor, the source of the problem was lurking in my thyroid medicine. Essentially, the one I was taking was not working for my body.
In 2021, my doctor changed my thyroid medicine and over the course of 11 months I gained 30 extra pounds because my body was not functioning properly on the prescription that I was taking. No matter what I did, my body would not let go of the weight.
So in November of 2021, after lots of research and discussions with my doctor, she changed my medication and for the first time in a year, the scale started to go down.
But, 30lbs is still a lot, even if your medication is doing what it should!
So I created a personal plan to lose all the weight in 3 months. My target was 10 lbs a month, because I did not want this weight loss to drag on and on. My plan worked!! Today when I stepped on the scale, it showed that my weight had gone down 30 pounds.
So I wanted to share how I did it for anyone who might find themselves in this position.
Losing weight at any age takes a lot of personal commitment, but when you are in your sixties, it can be very challenging. This voice inside says, “You are just going to be this weight forever.”
But I just couldn't accept that! My plan was to reduce my daily food intake, while moving my body, drinking loads of water, and staying off sugar and alcohol. My dinner is around 4 pm, so I was able to incorporate intermittent fasting into my routine.
To keep myself on track, I weighed myself everyday and recorded that number, just so I could see what was working as far as food, and what wasn’t.
