No, I m not talking about perscription drugs.... Im talking about Superfoods!
For those of you who may not be familiar with the term Superfoods, Im here to let you in on one of natures most incredible gifts....Foods that prevent sickness and also heal. They are rich vibrant foods that promote excellent nutrition, health, beauty, radiance, and well being.Maca
Maca has been growing in the Peruvian Andes of South America for over 2000 years. It is grown at altitudes of 9 to 12 thousand feet above sea level! It is grown for the root which resembles the radish but is off white or yellow in color. The root is so hearty that it can withstand extreme cold or hot weather. The Andes shamans say" when the maca is consumed the spirits are close"
The benifits of maca are almost too numerous to name.........
Probably what maca is best known for is it's reputation for being an adaptogen.... which means its ability to balance and stabilize the body's endocrine, nervous, and cardiovascular systems. An adaptogen was first defined in 1947 by a russian scientist, Nikolai Lazarev as a nutritive substance that counters adverse physical, chemical or biological sources of stress by raising nonspecific resistance, allowing the organism to adapt to stressfull circumstances...
In David Wolf's book "Superfoods" he states " According to research, maca as an adaptogenic superfood increases energy, endurance, oxygen in the blood, physical strength, neurotransmitter production, and libido. It supports the endocrine system, the adrenals, and the thyroid, typically improves one's mood and helps support healthy hormone production."
Maca does not contain hormones itself, but provides a unique set of nutrients that directly fuel the endocrine system and help the glands to produce vital hormones in precise dosages predetermined by one's own body.
Aside from all that it :Increases energy and enduranceAlleviates chronic exhaustionBoost the LibidoReduces hormonal dysfunction during menopauseReduces PMSAids in alleviating depressionSpeeds up wound healing and reduces anemia
WOW!!!! Ill take a triple dose!!!
The endocrine system (adrenal glands, thyroid, pancreas, thymus, hypothalamus, and ovaries) are deeply connected to the immune system. So if the the endocrine system is in balance, your immune system will be in balance and you will stay well and healthy.
I have been taking maca for over 2 years and I swear by it!! I buy it in powder form (organic and genlantinzed). I also give it to my husband eveyday. It works the same for men and women.
I have been buying maca from starwest-botanicals.com, it's alittle pricey for the amount that I take a day, so I am searching for other organic distributors.
I mix 2-3 teaspoons in some cranberry juice 2 to 3 times a day. It tastes like butterscotch to me. You have to shake it up in a container to get it to completely dissolve or otherwise it is lumpy.
What I personally get from maca is a feeling of energy, well being, and increased libido. It really seems to mellow me out and life is just really good!! For women who are menopausal, it balances out your hormones and diminishes the effects of hot flashes, night sweats and moodiness. Maca has been used to enhance fertility in people and animals.
I reccomend it to everyone I know!!!
So if you are lacking energy, libido, or just feeling somewhat depressed, go and buy some and get started down a different path-even if you are not lacking any of that-get some-you will only enhance your life!
Start out with 1-2 teaspoons a day, and then increase it as you see fit-Maca has not shown any signs of toxicity or adverse effects in the studies that have been done-In animal studies the more maca that was consumed the stronger the libido!!!!!
Keep checking back we have 9 more super foods to explore!
Until next time......Jan
